Students and parents should review the information about band camp on the Brookwood Band Camp Google Drive. The link is at the bottom of this email. It will have information about packing lists, housing details, and campus maps.
We are going to the beautiful campus of the University of North Georgia this summer. Band camp is rigorous! Students will need to be careful to remain properly hydrated. It’s a good idea to begin thinking about that NOW and getting into the habit of drinking plenty of WATER. During practices at band camp there will be ample opportunities for water or other hydration, but if you wait until you get to camp to begin drinking proper amounts of water it will be too late. Health experts say that you need to be in an established pattern of hydration one to two weeks before engaging in rigorous outdoor activity. Also, while students will have access to a variety of juice, sports drinks (and even some soft drinks) at camp, parents should NOT send large amounts of soft drinks or energy drinks to camp for their child. Caffeinated soft drinks actually work against the body’s attempts to remain hydrated, and consumption of soft drinks as a substitute for water will leave you dehydrated and unable to stay on your feet for practice. By far, the most prevalent problems dealt with by our safety staff at camp result from the lack of proper hydration. Energy drinks are NOT allowed at band camp, they will be taken from your student. Examples of these types of drinks are Monster, Rockstar Energy, and Red Bull.
There will be a live online video feed from band camp. Parents and friends can check in to see and hear what the band is doing. The free webcast will be live during the times the band is on the practice field, which is generally from early morning until lunchtime, and then after dinner until dark each day. Details for viewing the video feed will be provided to you before band camp.
Parents will deliver their child to camp (or arrange for a ride with someone else) on the afternoon of Sunday, July 14. Check-in times are from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A campus map is on the band’s google drive with driving instructions. As soon as your child is checked in and unloaded you are free to leave the campus. At the end of the check-in time, camp will officially begin, and all non-band campers will need to head back home.
Parents will return to camp on Friday morning, July 19 at 10 a.m. to watch a parent performance and then gather up your child’s things, check out and head for home.
***If you student drives themselves to band camp, they must turn in their car keys to Mrs. Risher at check-in. She will return their keys Friday after they check out of their dorm room.
KEY DEPOSIT
UNG will be issuing us room keys at check-in. You will need to bring a check for $35 for a key deposit made out to Brookwood Band. If your student returns their key at check-out, then they will get your check back. If they lose the key, then you will not get your check back and the college will use the money to buy a replacement key.

Band fees are to be paid in full prior to band camp. The deadline for those payments is July 1. You can pay your balance from the invoice that was emailed to you. If you have any questions about band fees, please email treasurer@brookwoodband.org.
