Essentials:

  • ALARM CLOCK
  • Sunscreen — a week’s worth!
  • Shorts — no boxers or other undergarments are to be visible outside your dorm room!
  • Shorts that go with a black shirt for the Friday’s performance
  • Light colored T-shirts (Note:  Exposed sport bra is not permitted.)
  • Sunglasses
  • Athletic shoes (2 pair) — You’ll spend a LOT of time on your feet at camp.  You need good shoes.
  • Hats – light colored, to wear on the field during practice.
  • Lots of socks – mandatory (at least two pair per day)
  • Underwear — Most students go through two sets per day (Note:  Optional but recommended – “compression pants”, available at Walmart and sporting goods stores)
  • Pajamas
  • Clothes hangers if you wish to hang up your clothes
  • Towels and wash cloths (multiple towels – students often choose to shower more than once per day due to the heat)
  • Bedding (extra-long “college size” twin sheets or sleeping bag, pillow and pillowcase, blanket)
  • Laundry bag for dirty clothes
  • Mosquito repellent with deet
  • Hair dryer
  • Personal medications
  • Powder
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, make-up, soap, deodorant, personal items, after-sun lotion, etc…)
  • Instrument and equipment (reeds, drumsticks, slide grease, valve oil, etc.)
  • Personal collapsible music stand labeled with your name (music stands will not be provided this year; these are very inexpensive, and many students already have them for home practice.) These will be used for sectionals.
  • Music

Optional:

  • Sweater or light jacket.
  • Small refrigerator Note: Refrigerators are NOT a necessity. PLEASE coordinate with your roommates and bring only one refrigerator per room (if desired).
  • Small lamp.
  • Snacks – Parents, please remember to encourage your student to eat healthy things (We know they will bring junk food, but they still need to eat the right foods to keep up with the level of activity they’ll experience.)
  • Ziploc Bags for snacks – if you bring snacks, please seal them in a bag
  • Camelback / water bottle
  • Sandals (may be worn only during free time – bare feet outside dorm are not permitted at any time)
  • Spending money for Dairy Queen, bookstore, snack machines, etc.
  • Electric fan (these also help drown out noise).

Cell phones – Students are permitted to have cell phones. However, parents: please understand that students are not permitted to have phones with them during practice or rehearsals. The students are extremely busy at camp, so don’t worry if you don’t hear from them. No news is good news.
